The Compliment of Teaching Material of Environmental Justice

The Act to Implement International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has taken into effect on 10 December 2009. The related polities of Taiwan would be highly and deeply affected by these two Conventions. Part of the Conventions deal with the important issues of “Environmental justice(EJ)”. This book project is funded by the Environmental Protection Administration of Taiwan and focus on the environmental justice aspect of these two conventions with a view to providing an overview and basic knowledge of systematic introduction on the context of EJ, the contents of two conventions, the development of EJ in different countries, and, most importantly, the implementation of the EJ in Taiwan. This book involves ten chapters: chapter 1. The Concept of Environmental Justice, Chapter 2. Environmental Justice and International Environmental Law, Chapter Three. The Principles of Environmental Justice, Chapter 4. Environmental Justice and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Chapter 5. Environmental Justice and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, Chapter 6. Environmental Justice and Gender Equity, Chapter 7. The Case Studies on Environmental Justice in US and Taiwan, Chapter 8. The Case Studies on Environmental Justice in Europe and Taiwan, Chapter 9. The Case Studies on Environmental Justice in Japan and Taiwan, and Chapter 10. The Prospective of Environmental Justice in Taiwan. Of ten chapters, the first three chapters focus on the conceptual aspect of EJ and an overview of EJ’s evolution. Moreover, the following two chapters are related to EJ and two Conventions. the next three chapters from Chapter 7 to 9 seek to elaborate on the experience of EJ in main countries. Finally, the Chapter 10 will conclude this book with challenges and solutions of EJ in Taiwan. In order to make readers to understand the essence of EJ in a more comprehensive manner, this book provides not only theoretical introduction of EJ, but also accompany with the situation in Taiwan, questions, and related photos, figures and tables. Also, teaching oriented digital materials, including: slides, interactive games, are also provided. Hopefully, with these materials, the students and readers can understand the difficult concept of EJ in a easier manner. Finally, this book will also accompany with a teaching workshop. In this way, we hope the ambitious idea of EJ can gain its ground in Taiwan’s land and integrate into the existing Taiwan legislations. Also, with this, the environmental awareness of Taiwan citizens can be improved. The ultimate goals is to treat Taiwan’s land more environmental friendly and to make Taiwan more prosper.
